Anyway I am working on them and planning to add them to the website soon. I’m also thinking about adding a new category of travel photos as the landscape gallery is getting too big to enjoy clicking through.
I also want to thank those who have let me know they like the site and the photos and for the orders. I really appreciate it.
Finally, I’m thinking of making some MAJOR changes but have not yet made up my mind. If I do, you will know what it is as soon as you open the site; but it is at least a couple of weeks away. Take care and have a good week.

Just A Bit of Luck.

You never know when you are going to come across some information that is going to turn out helpful. I was in Cherokee NC, earlier this week and saw a book entitled, “Storm In The Mountains” by Vernon H. Crow. The reason I bought it was because it dealt with the struggle between the people living in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. In particular it dealt with Thomas’ Confederate Legion. For those who have never heard of them they were a unit made up of Mountaineers and Cherokee Indians. They were the only unit to fight the entire war as a Legion. Instead of being broken up into Brigades, etc; it had infantry, cavalry, and artillery all working together as one cohesive unit called a Legion. Despite them being formed in North Carolina and Tennessee, and this was intended to be their primary area of operation, they fought with Early against Union General Hunter and then in the Valley Campaign which reached to the very gates of Washington DC. They were known as ferocious fighters and by the time they were sent back to their primary operating area they had suffered 80% casualties.

So, here I am in Cherokee NC, and I come across a book seemingly with nothing to do with the battles I am writing about and there is a boatload of wonderful information to use; not only concerning Hunter’s Raid, but also the Battles at Saltville. Is that great or what?

<colgroup><col style="mso-width-alt: 6997; mso-width-source: userset; width: 148pt;" width="197"></col> </colgroup>

Writer's Block

Okay - I have writer's block. Having a website or sites (I have an online store at http://www.etsy.com/shop/SteveDyePhoto ) of photos is not a get rich quick method. For me it is simply a way to share what I like, and when someone does buy something it's great. The enjoyment for me is seeing all the visits it gets; for my wife it is hearing I sold something. Anyway I updated it morning with a link to this blog, and also made a few corrections, which I doubt anyone else saw.
As to the book about the "minor" Civil War battles I am working on I now have completed three battles. Since I am planning to use black and white photos in the book I thought I might share one with you.

This is a scene from a reenactment at Saltville, Virginia. Two battles occured there in October and December of 1864. If you want more info you'll just have to wait for the book.

Launched website - finally!

I finally got my new website launched today.
